Join us for this virtual workshop on leadership development in higher education with a focus on cultivating diverse and inclusive leadership. Welcoming remarks will be delivered by Executive Vice President and University Provost Beth Boehm. President Neeli Bendapudi will introduce Aaron Thompson, President of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, who will deliver the keynote address on “Building a More Civil and Just Commonwealth.”

The keynote address will be followed by a dean panel titled, “My Leadership Journey to the Deanship: Lessons Learned.” Panelists will be Teresa Reed, Dean of the UofL School of Music and Emmanuel Collins, Dean of the JB Speed School of Engineering. Faye Jones, Senior Associate Vice President for Diversity and Equity, will moderate the panel.

Speakers:

Dr. Aaron Thompson is a passionate advocate for higher education. As a first-generation college student from rural Clay County, Kentucky, he experienced firsthand the transformative power of a college credential. As the first African American President of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, Dr. Thompson works to ensure all Kentuckians have an equal opportunity to improve their lives through postsecondary education.

Dr. Teresa Reed was appointed Dean of the School of Music in June 2019. Dr. Reed holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Valparaiso University, a Master of Music degree (Music Theory) from the University of Tulsa, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Music Theory, with minors in Music History and Literature and African American Studies) from Indiana University. She is an award-winning author and scholar with thirty years of experience in higher education.

Dr. Emmanuel G. Collins was appointed the ninth dean of the J. B. Speed School of Engineering on May 17, 2018. Dr. Collins holds the Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science from Morehouse College, the Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and the MS in Mechanical Engineering and PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering from Purdue University. Prior to joining UofL, he was the John H. Seely Professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Florida A&M University - Florida State University College of Engineering, where he was also Founder and Director of the Center for Intelligent Systems, Control, and Robotics.
