Press Releases

The Agriculture Committee will discuss the impact of inflation on the budget of the Common Agricultural Policy with Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski this Monday.

WHEN: Monday, 9 January 2023, from 17.30 to 18.30

WHERE: ANTALL building, room 4Q2 and via webstreaming

Buying food and feed in Europe is increasingly more expensive, with the current energy crisis and the war in Ukraine contributing to the inflationary pressure. The Agriculture and Rural Development Committee will debate with Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski the consequences of inflation on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) budget.

The European Commission is preparing a mid-term revision of the multiannual financial framework (2021-2027) that includes support for the European agricultural guarantee fund (EAGF) and the European agricultural fund for rural development (EAFRD).

In a separate debate, from 16.30 to 17.30, members of the committee will discuss Ukraine’s agricultural production, planting prospects and farm exports with a representative from the Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture.

The discussion will also address possible additional EU measures to take into consideration the latest developments in Ukraine and in global agricultural markets.
