I supported the EP resolution as it strongly denounces these so-called elections, which were undemocratic and conducted in a highly restricted environment of systemic internal repression, long-standing violations of civil and political rights, during Russia’s illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression against Ukraine. It unequivocally condemns that these elections were also conducted in the temporary occupied territories of Ukraine, such as the Crimean peninsula and parts of the Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and in Transnistria. Holding an election in these territories constitutes a clear violation of international law and of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries. This EP resolution deplores the fact that the Russian opposition has been brutally suppressed and that any critics of the Kremlin regime have either been imprisoned, are dead or forced out of the country. It reiterates that the Kremlin regime and Putin personally bear criminal and political responsibility for the death of Alexei Navalny and calls for an international investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Pilnībā atbalstu šo rezolūciju, kurā Parlaments aicina ES un dalībvalstu politisko vadību steidzami un enerģiski vērsties pret Krievijas iejaukšanās mēģinājumiem. Ticamās apsūdzības, ka dažiem EP deputātiem ir maksāts par Krievijas propagandas izplatīšanu, un ka vairāki deputāti piedalījušies prokrieviskā plašsaziņas līdzekļa "Voice of Europe" darbībās laikā, kamēr Krievija īsteno nelikumīgo agresijas karu pret Ukrainu ir ārkārtīgi nopietnas, bet ne pārsteidzošas. ES un dalībvalstu vadītājiem steidzami un apņēmīgi jārisina Krievijas iejaukšanās centienus ne tikai ES iestādēs, bet visā Eiropas Savienībā.
Esmu īpaši gandarīta, ka rezolūcijā ir iekļauts arī mans ierosinājums sākt strādāt pie drošības pielaižu sitēmas ieviešānas Eiropas Parlamentā tiem deputātiem, kui darbojas ar sensitīvu informāciju un piedalās slēgtajās sēdēs. Eiropas Parlamentam ir jāpārņem dalībvalstu Parlamentu labās prakses piemēri, mēs nedrīkstam uztvert drošības jautājumus Eiropas Parlamentā mazāk nopietni nekā dalībvalstu līmenī.
