William Welch Obituary

Mr. William F. Welch, 72, of Milford MA died unexpectedly on Saturday (October 1, 2022) at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge MA after being stricken on an MBTA train ride following the Harvard University & Holy Cross College football game that he had attended. He was the beloved husband of Maureen L. (Gulino) Welch. 

 

William was born in Framingham MA, the son of the late Frederick Welch and the late Mary (Downing) Welch. He was a graduate of the former Marian High School, Class of 1967. He was also a graduate of St. Joseph’s College, Class of 1971 and attained law degree from the New England School of Law in 1977.

 

William began his accomplished career working as an intern at the Massachusetts State Senate offices in 1971. He remained working in those offices his whole career, where he served as head clerk of the Massachusetts State Senate until his retirement in 2018. He was presently working part-time as a consultant at those Senate offices.

 

William was an avid sports fan who loved to attend both college & professional level sporting events, especially those of the New England Patriots; the Boston Red Sox; the Boston Bruins; Harvard University football; Northeastern University football & hockey; and any other sporting event he could possibly attend. He was also an avid hockey player, participating in various men’s leagues over the years.

 

William was also an avid supporter of the John W. Powers Post #59 American Legion baseball team and was an active member of the Board of Directors of the John W. Powers Post #59 American Legion baseball team.

 

Along with his beloved wife of 48 years, he is survived by his 2 sons: Gregory M. Welch of Florida & Geoffrey M. Welch of North Carolina; his brother: John D. Welch and his wife Kathleen of Sudbury MA; also several nieces & nephews.

 

His funeral will be held Wednesday (October 5th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (UPPER CHURCH), 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be Wednesday morning (October 5th) from 9am to 10:30am, prior to his Funeral Mass.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Milford Legion Baseball Team, P O Box #585, Milford MA 01757.
