G15 5515, brightness keys and slider not working

I have a G15 5515 Ryzen Edition with a GeForce RTX 3060 running Windows 10. Neither the brightness keys or the slider under Settings > Display has any effect on the screen brightness.

All the drivers were current before troubleshooting began.  Here is what I tried so far, restarting the laptop after each change, but it still doesn't work.

  • Disabled/Re-enabled the Radeon graphics driver
  • Rolled back the Radeon graphics driver to the previous version
  • Changed driver to Microsoft Basic Display adapter
  • Disabled the GeForce driver (and retried the above)
  • Looked at the power settings and there is are options for adaptive brightness to select (basically on/off after a certain time)
  • Uninstalled the monitor drivers (restarted)
  • Did a system restore back 12 days

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I ended up fixing the issue by install RTX 3060 drivers from Del's website.

Bro. It’s same for me. I’ve Dell G15 ryzen Edition with Rtx 3060. If I install any later Rtx 3060 driver version from nvidia site ( not from dell drivers download site) , the screen goes to 100% brightness and sliders dont work ( i cant even make brightness low). It’s like Dell generic issue.
So I’ve even stopped trying to download or install. What I did was system restore to go back to previous driver and solve the issue.

Hello. Would you please share versions of NVidia and AMD drivers you currently use?

I have same issue.
I hope latest driver from NVIDIA can solve the issue, since I think driver on Dell's website is not latest.

I suspect that latest driver from NVidia is how I got the problem in the first place.

Thanks happycat_dnp.  It's the latest NVidia driver that caused the issue.

Well, I am disappointed. I've upgraded my Nvidia driver, upgraded my AMD driver, then downgraded my AMD driver to Dell's latest version (from prehistoric times). Nothing helped. And I refuse to have gaming laptop with old Nvidia driver just to have working brightness. Specially since brightness slider doesn't even work when Nvidia GPU is disabled and I just run on APU + laptop display.

Since I use it mostly with my desktop display, I've opted for a workaround.

Found and downloaded this small utility: https://www.nelsonpires.com/software/dimmer

Ran Dimmer, and adjusted brightness for now. My external display is for 99% gaming and it has it's own adaptive brightness sensor so I don't care. But I'll keep my eyes on this thread if Dell or AMD or Nvidia ever decide to solve this basic user feature.

New driver out today, 526.98  WHQL, but didn't have time to test before sleep. AMD released new one yesterday as well  Adrenalin 22.11.1. I'll test them tomorrow if no one beats me to it.

New driver didn't fix it. 522.25 still the best bet or other workarounds.

Hi,

I'm in the same situation.
I have a Dell G15 notebook with RTX 3060 after updating GeForce Game Ready Driver 526.98, monitor brightness CANNOT be adjusted with the slider.

Does anyone have any news?
The problem also occurs with 527.37.
