Carolyn Lee Kidd

July 25, 1940 — June 26, 2022

Carolyn Lee Kidd passed away on June 26, 2022 peacefully in her home with family watching over her. Carolyn would say that she lived a blessed life with devoted friends and family. She was born in Columbia, South Carolina. Her family relocated to Wellington, Kansas where she spent her childhood years. She moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and began her career in the building materials industry where she would later meet her husband, Virgil Kidd. Virgil, Carolyn and Mike Kidd worked together at Apache Lumber Company for many years. Carolyn worked in a predominantly male business but proceeded to make her way up the ladder to becoming a manager for several large building material companies such as Thunderbird Steel, Cameron Ashley, Guardian Building Products, OrePac and Stock Building Supply who had divisions of their companies in Albuquerque. She was able to use her vision, strength of leadership and “mom” skills to keep those businesses successful and employee morale high. At one time she was the only female branch manager in a corporation of 144 locations. She once managed 102 employees. She won awards for customer service and National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC). It was not uncommon for her to prepare and serve breakfast for her employees. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her close friends and family and cooking delicious meals. She was generous, never forgot a birthday and spent time with friends in need.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil Kidd, her daughter Lisa Bendorf-Kidd and her son Curt Bendorf.

She is survived by brothers, Jim (JoLe) Hudson of KS; Joe (Teresa) Sprowls of KS; daughter Jana (Donald) Chadwick of Milford, CT; son Mike (Gloria) Kidd of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Teresa Mello, Karen Rich and Tom Rich, Nicholas and Jonathan Kidd; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will always be our Mom Carolyn.

Services are planned to coincide with a ceremony at the National Cemetery In Santa Fe where Carolyn’s name will be added to her husband Virgil Kidd’s headstone. This will occur in early fall 2022
