Professor in Nociception , Department of Pharmacology, University of Cambridge

Ewan conducted his PhD at Cambridge in Pharmacology looking at how acid causes pain before spending 5.5-years at the Max Delbrück Centrum in Berlin (2-years as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow) studying the unusual physiology of the naked mole-rat.

He subsequently spent 1-year at NYU School of Medicine as a Max Kade Fellow before returning to Cambridge in 2013 where his lab researches the molecular basis of pain (primarily focused on arthritis) and leverages the extreme physiology of the naked mole-rat to learn more about normal biology. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2017 and Reader in 2019.
