The Kalamazoo Community

First-year

You should apply as a first-year student if you are currently a senior in high school or in an early-middle college program. Those who have graduated from high school or completed high school equivalency such as GED but have not earned any college credit after graduating should apply as first-year students as well.

Transfer

Apply as a transfer if you have graduated from high school or earned high school equivalency such as GED AND have any earned any college credit in a fall or spring term. Western Michigan University does not use the Common Application for transfer applicants. Find the transfer application at wmich.edu/apply.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Your first move to securing financial aid is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at fafsa.gov. WMU’s Federal School Code is 002330. 

WMU offers need-based and merit-based scholarships to students enrolled full-time. That’s free money that you don’t need to pay back. Several academic and departmental scholarships are awarded each year for first-year students, transfer students and other undergrads.
