On the week of Black Maternal Health Week, Lifetime TV Network launched a new movie titled "Beware of the Midwife" This movie sheds a very detrimental light on midwifery care and even worse, creating a negative view of black midwifery care. Please sign the petition to have this movie removed from Lifetime and streaming networks.

This movie is about a black midwife who seeks to kidnap a new mother's baby.

April 11th-17th, we celebrate Black Maternal Health Week to bring awareness to the alarming rates of maternal mortality in the African American community. Black parents accounted for nearly %50 of maternal mortality, according to CDC. Much due to the lack of adequate care in impoverished communities as well as racial disparities that create gaps between providers and the community. This fosters mistrust for families.

Midwifery has long been a pipeline for families to receive autonomous care. Bridging the gap for communities who prefer alternate care options. Black Midwives have played a critical role in improving birth outcomes.

The pathway to midwifery is becoming more complicated especially for the BIPOC community and as many strive to break barriers and repair fractured imagery of midwifery, movies like this bring such negative viewpoints. This subliminally skewed message is detrimental to the birth world and creates fear-mongering to those who have yet had the ability to encounter this world.
