Eligibility Criteria

Applicant must:

- Currently reside in Boone, Ogle, Stephenson, or Winnebago County.
- Have experienced the death of a parent or step-parent before graduating high school.

You're encouraged to craft a unique response to each prompt to show the reviewers why you're the best candidate for that scholarship.

Scholarship Background and Intent

To honor the life and memory of Katrina Smith. 

Katrina was a happy, kind, generous, loving person. She loved exploring the world around us. She sought fun in everything she did, and she never took herself too seriously. We miss her every day. She spent her life giving back to the world, so we created this scholarship to make a lasting positive impact in her memory.

Announcing the Katrina Smith Memorial Scholarship on Good Day Stateline
In November 2022, CFNIL filmed a Good Day Stateline segment with guest Sydnie Smith, a CFNIL scholarship recipient who has recently established the Katrina Smith Memorial Scholarship. Sydnie seeks to honor the memory of her stepmom, Katrina, and to provide resources for other local students who have lost a parent or step-parent.
