ABERDEEN, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was arrested after a home invasion and attempted carjacking in a failed getaway in Aberdeen on Wednesday afternoon.

The incidents happened around 4 p.m. on the corner of Harris Street and Moore Street in the Berkley Community, said the Aberdeen Police Department, according to the Aberdeen Times.

Abdereen Police responded to the scene and stopped a man near a home invasion scene.

While being questioned in the front yard of the home about this incident the suspect attempted tried to carjack a man driving in the area. The suspect hit the driver in the face.

Officers were able to arrest the man before he was able to flee the scene.

Tavares Anthony Harrington, age 27, of East 6th Street in Raeford has been charged with break and enter to terrorize or injure, larceny of a motor vehicle, and simple assault.

Harrington was transported to the Moore County Detention Center in Carthage where he was held under a $75,000 secure bond. His first date in court is March 8.

According to officials with the police department none of the victims in the incidents suffered any serious injuries.
