Support the Library

Thank You!

The Cary Library is grateful for these recent contributions that were made to help support our services. Thank you for supporting your local library.

Memorials

Choosing to add a book or other material to the library's collection is a wonderful way to remember a family member, honor a special friend, celebrate a special occasion. Here's how it works:

You can download the library’s Memorial donation form to make your tax-deductible gift. A book(s) or other material to recognize the person or event will be selected. A bookplate identifying the person or organization being recognized, and recognizing you as the donor, will be placed in the book. A letter announcing your gift will be sent to the individual or family indicated on the form. Your donation will be listed in the Houlton Pioneer Times unless you notify us otherwise.

Why Support Your Library?

The Cary Library is a private, independent public library, serving the citizens of Houlton, Maine and nearly two dozen surrounding communities. Nearly 100,000 people visit the Cary Library each year. Thanks to your generous support, visitors can borrow books and other media, conduct online research, and participate in numerous programming opportunities. The Cary Library is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. It is both our honor and responsibility to maintain the library as a gathering places for ideas, recreation, information and education.

Public libraries are public trusts. Without the support of our patrons and community members, the Cary Library’s long history of service could not continue. While some libraries are fully funded by state or local resources, others (like the Cary Library) are independent organizations managed by their own volunteer Board of Trustees. The Cary Library receives only a portion of our operating budget from the Town of Houlton and other area communities. The remaining funds must be raised through private donations, foundation grants, bequests, and other gifts and contributions. Grants and memorial donations provide us with revenue we can use today, and donations to our endowment funds provide us with security for the future.

Your donation to the Cary Library is a gift to your community - a way to ensure that our children, our families, our friends, neighbors and visitors have the resources necessary to fulfill their life adventure. It is never too late to donate. Contributions are accepted at any time throughout the year.

The library accepts donations of cash, securities, and property.
