WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today applauded the inclusion of several important projects for West Virginia in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) FY21 Work Plan.

USACE provides crucial support for water resources projects in West Virginia. Senator Capito has worked consistently to ensure that West Virginia remains a top priority for USACE and receives its fair share of federal funding.

“Improving our bridges, dams, and water infrastructure are key components in moving West Virginia forward. Through my work on the Senate EPW Committee, I’ve made it a priority to build—and maintain—a strong relationship with the Army Corps of Engineers so that West Virginia receives the support we deserve. Reliable water infrastructure both above and below ground strengthens our communities and creates the foundation for additional investments in our state. I’m pleased to see so many important projects included in this year’s work plan and look forward to all the benefits it will create for West Virginians back home,” said Senator Capito.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Within the USACE FY21 Work Plan, $4.65 million is allocated for environmental infrastructure projects in northern West Virginia.
  • Of the $4.65 million, $3.125 million is allocated for a water project in the City of Follansbee, with the additional $1.525 million set to finalize Paden City’s sewer project—a long-time priority for Senator Capito.
  • $2 million is allocated for environmental infrastructure projects in southern West Virginia.
  • $1 million is allocated for environmental infrastructure projects in central West Virginia.
  • The FY21 Work Plan also allocates new construction funding for the Montgomery Locks and Dam on the Upper Ohio River, which is in need of rehabilitation in order to continue to facilitate commercial navigation on the Ohio River.
