LitFilm 2023

February 13–19, 2023

LitFilm – BPL’s popular film festival about writers – celebrates its fifth year this winter with seven nights of documentaries and films, highlighting some of the most influential and iconoclastic literary minds. Get an inside look at the private lives, artistic processes and political struggles of luminaries such as Elizabeth Bishop, Leonard Cohen, Patricia Highsmith, Robert Gottlieb, Pauli Murray, Joyce Carol Oates, Salman Rushdie, Dylan Thomas, Ludwig Wittgenstein, and more.

The festival's keynote conversation will be with My Name is Pauli Murray director Betsy West, on making literary documentaries, filmmaking partnerships, and more. Director Eva Vitija introduces Loving Highsmith. Plus, editor Alice Quinn and director John Scott discuss Elizabeth Bishop and the Art of Losing. And as an endnote talk, director Lizzie Gottlieb discusses Turn Every Page, her portrait of her father, famed book editor Robert Gottlieb and his long work with Robert Caro.

All screenings are free but require reservations. Times subject to change.
