US Hybrid, a subsidiary of Ideanomics, recently launched a near-zero-emission natural gas-powered parallel hybrid powertrain offering for drayage and long-haul trucks.
After six years of research, development, and testing, US Hybrid’s new vehicle-agnostic technology will deliver increased power, range, and efficiency. A combined 640 hp and 1,770 lb-ft maximum torque from the CNG- or RNG-powered engine will enable comparable uphill acceleration. The 8.9 liters engine’s efficiency touts an increase in fuel economy of double that of a standard 15-liter engine, according to the company.
For long-haul fleets, preliminary testing suggests the engine can offer up to 1,000 miles of range per fuel fill. The improvement in CNG engine performance has been paralleled with an electric motor, resulting in reportedly lower NOx emissions and lower fuel consumption.

The engine also emits less than 0.02 g/bhp-hr of NOx, significantly improving the air quality of neighborhoods near ports and warehouses. In addition, the new CNG/RNG parallel hybrid powertrain also features optional vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging technology, adding near-zero-emission towing capacity to standard long-haul fleet operators.
