David was born in Beckley, West Virginia where he was a stand-out basketball player for Woodrow Wilson High School from 1986 to 1988. He helped lead Woodrow Wilson to the West Virginia semi-final championship in 1988 before losing to Martinsburg High School. David was First Team All-State, averaging 25.5 points per game, 12 assists and five steals per game as a senior. He played in the North-South All-Star game, where he won the slam dunk contest. He became the first Woodrow Wilson basketball player to earn a Division 1 basketball scholarship in 22 years when he signed with Morehead State University.

After playing one season at Morehead State University, Kidd returned home to finish his career at WVU Tech. He helped lead Tech to the WVIAC Conference Championship during the 1989-90 basketball season, when the Golden Bears finished with an overall record of 24-8 and a conference record of 16-3. Kidd was a three-year starter, making second Team All-Conference as a junior, and first team All-Conference as a senior. He was second scorer in the conference, averaging 24.6 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game. Kidd was recognized as one of the top five players nominated to the 1992 All Mountain State basketball team, which included players from Marshall, WVU and the WVIAC.

After graduating from WVU Tech with a bachelor’s degree, Kidd had many opportunities to play basketball overseas and multiple tryouts in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), which is now the NBA G-League. He had a brief stint with the NBA G-League Grand Rapids Hoops and played for the Huntington Express and the Beckley Blazers in the USA Basketball League.

Kidd is currently a National Sales Director for Integrity Staffing Solutions and resides in Atlanta, Georgia. He has three children: DJ Sharp, who owns a lawn care business in the Maryland area, Coach Lexie Barrier, Assistant Basketball Coach for James Madison University Women's basketball, and Mason Kidd, freshman early enrollee Quarterback for Northern Illinois University Huskies Football.

He would like to thank his parents, Norman Kidd and Deloris Kidd for raising him to be the man and father he is today, his brother, Coach Steve Kidd, Woodrow Wilson Basketball, for his guidance and support his entire life. He would also like to thank Coach Barksdale of Woodrow Wilson Basketball, Coach Tom Sutherland and Coach Kania of WVU Tech, and - most importantly - all of his basketball teammates.
