LMSA-West Canopy Scholarship

Available to High school students - Medical students - Residents/fellow in the current* academic year.

​

The LMSA-West Canopy Scholarship was developed in 2021 to assist future LMSA healthcare providers to provide better care to Spanish-speaking patients. Three awards are awarded each year to one high school student, one medical student, and one resident/fellow.

Dr. Amanda Perez Scholarship

Available to High School Seniors OR freshmans at 4-year university during the current* academic year.

The Dr. Amanda Perez Scholarship was developed in 2008 to assist high school and college freshman students who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Personal qualities, financial need, and academic and extracurricular achievements will all be considered in the selection process.

High School Pipeline Program Scholarship

Available to High school students during the current* academic year.

​

The program was developed in 2017 to assist high school students of underrepresented minority backgrounds to enroll in pre-med pipeline programs for youth medical education and healthcare career exploration. LMSA-West will award up to a $2000 one-time scholarship. This scholarship is sponsored by AltaMed.

Cinthya Felix
Scholarship

Available to Sophomore level or higher at 4-year university or post-baccalaureate student during the current* academic year.​

 

The Cinthya Felix Scholarship was developed in 2011 to assist undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine. This year, LMSA-West will award three (3) scholarship recipients $500 each.

Dreamers of Tomorrow Scholarship

Available to Residents or Medical Students during the current* academic year.

​​​

The Dreamers of Tomorrow Scholarship was developed in 2017 to support undocumented medical and pre-medical students attending school in the LMSA West Region states. LMSA West will collaborate with Pre-Health Dreamers to award two (2) scholarship recipients with a one-time scholarship in the amount of $1,800. This scholarship is sponsored by AltaMed.

Janine Gonzalez MCAT Scholarship

Eligible applicants should be applying for matriculation into Allopathic or Osteopathic Schools of Medicine in 2026 or 2027​

 

The Janine Gonzalez Scholarship for an MCAT Preparatory Course was developed to assist pre-medical students with the financial burden of preparing for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) required to apply to accredited U.S. Medical Schools.

“SÍ SE PUEDE”
Scholarship

Eligible applicants should have submitted AMCAS® OR AACOMAS® applications for the cycle that would allow for matriculation into medical school in the fall of the current academic year.​

 

The “Si Se Puede” Medical School Application Scholarship was developed in 2004 to assist pre-medical students with the financial burden of applying to accredited U.S. Medical Schools. This year, LMSA-West will award four (4) scholarship recipients $1000 for medical school application expenses.

Richard Juarez, MD
Memorial Award

Applicants must be graduating medical students during the current* academic year.

 

Dr. Juarez was born on April 24, 1972, in the rural town of Brawley, California, and was a student at the UCLA-Drew School of Medicine. For all the years he was in medical school, he tirelessly dedicated himself to what was then CMSA (now known as LMSA). Classmates and fellow CMSA members decided to make permanent Richard’s memory in the creation of the Richard Juarez, MD Memorial Award for Outstanding Commitment to the Community.

Latino Health Student Research Scholarship

Must be a resident or attending school within the LMSA-West region states during the current* academic year.

​

The Latino Health Research Scholarship was developed in 2017 to support, encourage, and facilitate scholarly research and academic engagement by LMSA-West medical students. LMSA-West will provide one (1) scholarship recipient with a one-time research scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to support the development and dissemination of novel research in areas of Latino health and health disparities. This scholarship is sponsored by AltaMed.

Boards and Beyond
Scholarship

Must be a resident or attending school within the LMSA-West region states during the current* academic year.

​

​The Boards & Beyond Scholarship was developed in 2022 to assist future LMSA healthcare providers in preparing for their STEP 2 or 3. The Boards & Beyond Scholarship will offer a 1-year subscription to students who are at least in their second year of medical school preparing for STEP 2 or residents preparing for STEP 3.

Kaiser Permanente Oliver Goldsmith, M.D. Scholarship​

The award celebrates students’ efforts to improve the health care of underserved communities. Awardees receive a $5,000 scholarship funded by KPSC Community Health, mentoring from a Kaiser Permanente clinician, and a clinical rotation at a Kaiser Permanente facility.

​

Since the program was established in 2004, 80 scholarships totaling $400,000 in community benefit funds have been provided to assist medical students in completing their educational goals.

Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans

Every year, The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans (PD Soros) supports thirty New Americans-- immigrants or the children of immigrants--who are pursuing graduate or professional school in the United States. 

​​

  • You can apply more than one. 

  • You must be 30 or younger as the application deadline 

  • PD Soros supports all types of full-time degrees at accredited institutions in the United States.

NMF Scholarships and Awards Program

Offered primarily to first- and second-year U.S. medical students, these scholarships are granted on the basis of financial need. NMF scholarships are increasingly important due to escalating cost of medical school and spiraling student debt. The NMF Scholarships and Awards Program provides financial assistance to United States citizens from groups currently under-represented in the medical profession; specifically, African-Americans, Alaska Natives, Hispanic/Latinos, Native Hawaiians, Native Americans, Vietnamese, and Cambodians.
