16-year-old shot and killed at Escambia County apartment complex

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A 16-year-old male was shot and killed in Escambia County late Tuesday night.

The sheriff's office says the shooting happened around 11 p.m. at the Forest Creek Apartments at 34 Patton Dr.

Deputies arrived on scene and found a juvenile male with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies have identified the victim as 16-year-old Jeffrey Kennell Jr.

Deputies took one person into custody, but have not announced yet if they are being charged.

An investigation is ongoing. No further details have been released at this point.

A second shooting took place in Escambia County just hours later. Deputies say a victim was dropped off at the hospital after being shot at an unknown location.

Deputies say they are still investigating if the shootings are related.
