Postgame Notes vs. Oregon State

Utah's game against Oregon State was the first December home game the Utes have hosted since 1962 when Utah welcomed UCLA to town on Dec. 1.
  • It is the latest regular season home game the Utes have played in since 1896 when Utah beat City High on Dec. 25. The Utes had a game scheduled for Dec. 12, 1898 against All Hallows, but All Hallows forfeited the game.
Utah opened the game scoring points on each of its first four possessions (FG, FG, FG, TD).
  • It was the first time doing so since Sept. 14, 2019 against Idaho State (FG, TD, TD, TD).
Freshman Ty Jordan led the Utes in carries (27) and rushing yards (167), averaging 6.2 yards per carry. It was his first-career 100-yard rushing game as a Ute.
  • Jordan scored his first-career touchdown as a Ute with 3:10 left in the second quarter, punching in a one-yard rushing touchdown.
  • Jordan's 167 rushing yards against Oregon State are the most rushing yards in a game by a Ute since Zack Moss put up 203 against Arizona in 2019 (11/23; 26 carries, 1 TD).
  • The last time a Utah true freshman rushed for 100 yards in a game was in 1995 when Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala rushed for 108 yards against BYU (24 carries, 4.5 ypc, 2 TDs).
  • Jordan's 167 yards against Oregon State are the most a Utah true freshman has rushed for in a game since Fuamatu-Ma'afala had 180 against Utah State in 1995.
  • Jordan finished the game with 189 all-purpose yards (167 rush, 22 receive), his second-straight 100-yard all-purpose game for the Utes.
Sophomore placekicker Jadon Redding finished the game 3-of-3 on field goals (33, 20, 27) and 3-of-3 on PATs for 12 points.
  • Redding tied his career-high in field goals made, also knocking in three against USC in 2019 (9/20).
  • This game marks his third-career game with two-or-more field goals in a game (3 at USC, 2019; 2 at Washington, 2019).
  • Redding is 5-of-5 from 20-29 yards and 7-of-9 from 30-39 yards in his career as a Ute.
Junior tight end Brant Kuithe recorded a team-high eight receptions for 76 yards.
  • His eight catches against Oregon State is a career-high, besting his previous career-best of five against UCLA in 2019 (132 yards).
  • He has either led or tied for the lead in receptions in all three games this season and in eight career games.
Junior wide receiver Britain Covey finished the game against Oregon State with four receptions for 54 yards (1 TD), adding two carries for seven yards. In his one punt return, he took it 64 yards for his second touchdown of the night.
  • Covey's third quarter eight-yard receiving touchdown was his first receiving score since Utah's game against USC in 2018 (10/20) when he caught a 46-yard touchdown from Tyler Huntley.
  • Covey has six career receiving touchdowns (4 in 2015, 1 in 2018).
  • Covey's 64-yard punt return for a touchdown to start the fourth quarter was the first punt return for a TD for the Utes since Demari Simpkins returned one to the house for 66 yards against Colorado in 2019 (11/30).
  • It was his second-career punt return for a touchdown, also running one back for 77 yards at Fresno State in 2015 (9/19).
Sophomore cornerback JaTravis Broughton finished the game with a career-high nine tackles against Oregon State, adding one pass breakup.
  • Broughton's previous career-best was his five tackles against USC this season.
Junior linebacker Devin Lloyd recorded seven total tackles against the Beavers (2 TFL, 1 sack).
  • He is averaging 9.67 tackles per game.
  • He has four career games with two-or-more tackles for loss, including two this season (2.0 vs. USC).
  • He picked up his first sack of the season in the fourth quarter, taking down OSU QB Chance Nolan for a loss of 13 yards on a first-and-10 on Utah's 16-yard line. He had 6.5 sacks in 2019, giving him 7.5 total career sacks.
Senior safety Vonte Davis finished the game with one tackle and his second interception of the season, coming up with a key pick in the first quarter.
  • His 35-yard return was a career-long for the Ute, beating his previous career-best of 18 yards (at Washington, 2020).
  • He has now recorded an interception in back-to-back games (1 INT vs. Washington, 18-yard return). The last time a Ute had interceptions in back-to-back games was against Washington (11/2/19) and UCLA (11/16/19) when Julian Blackmon came away with picks in both games.
