Summary
Mikael Sodergren MBChB, DIC, PhD, FRCS is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London and Consultant Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgeon at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
His clinical interests include complex pancreas, liver & gallbladder cancer surgery as well as laparoscopic & robotic approaches. He spearheaded the team that pioneered and carried out the first cases of natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) in the UK.
His research portfolio is based on novel technological innovation & therapeutics with the following major themes:
1) Immunomodulatory Cancer Therapies with a focus on radiofrequency ablation, saRNA and aptamer technologies applied to hepatocellular carcinoma and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma
2) He leads the Medical Cannabis Research Group - a research programme which evaluates and develops novel therapies targeting the endocannabinoid system through a framework of in vitro, in vivo and clinical translational activities
3) Surgical devices - he is the inventor of an internationally patented novel clip applicator - watch technology in action
4) Medical Eye-Tracking - investigating the innovative application of this technology to improve outcomes in patients undergoing surgery and other medical interventions
