Creating economic opportunity for all

Financial health and security are essential to ensuring that everyone can live their lives with dignity and respect, and can pursue a better future for their families and communities. PayPal is equipped to make a distinctive difference in advancing racial equity through economic opportunity.

In June 2020, we announced a $535 million commitment to support Black and underserved communities and businesses, as well as invest in diversity and inclusion at PayPal. Since then, we’ve allocated 100% of that funding and are already seeing meaningful results.

As a continuation of our efforts to advance racial equity, we launched the Southern Communities Initiative, in partnership with Vista Equity and Boston Consulting Group, to coordinate and accelerate racial equity funding, programming, and convening organizations in six southern communities that are home to approximately 50% of the Black population in the U.S.

Promoting inclusion around the world

At PayPal, we believe in the power of public-private partnerships to drive economic growth, advance our value of Inclusion, and create lasting change. Through our partnerships and work with global organizations, like the Human Rights Campaign, Aspen Institute, JUST Capital, and the World Economic Forum, we explore and implement innovative ways to deploy our products, services, and resources to ensure equitable opportunities for our employees, customers, and the communities we serve.

Celebrating pioneering contributions to an inclusive economy

PayPal’s Maggie Lena Walker Award celebrates the achievements of women in the U.S. who are economically empowering those in their community and creating a more inclusive world. Stemming from our $535 million commitment to racial equity, we grant more than $100,000, as well as access to resources and mentorship from the PayPal community, to help award honorees advance their work and continue driving impact.

As the private sector lead for the Economic Justice and Rights Action Coalition at the U.N. Women’s Generation Equality Forum, PayPal committed $108 million over the next five years to support economic empowerment of women and girls.
