Honors: Set the Division I Freshman Record for Points in a season, Kyle Macy Freshman All-American, Big South All-Freshman Team, College Sports Madness National Player of the Week, 2x Big South Player of the Week.

2019-2020 (Freshman Season): Bruner etched his name in the USC Upstate record books early and often in his first season with the Spartans…The Palmetto State native broke the Division I Freshman record for points in a season with 461, passing Torrey Craig in the process… His 461 points rank seventh most in a single season in the Division I era…Bruner earned Big South All-Freshman Team Accolades and was a two-time Big South Freshman of the Week…The freshman also earned National Player of the Week accolades from College Sports Madness publication…The Palmetto State native became just the second Spartan to be named to the Kyle Macy Freshman All-American Team...Bruner finished second on the team and ninth in the Big South in scoring average (14.0 ppg)…The freshman ended the season second on the team and third in the Big South in free throw percentage (80.2) and he led the team in made field goals (158)…Bruner appeared in all 33 games this season for the Spartans and made 32 starts, averaging 29.6 minutes per contest…Bruner’s best offensive outing came against Campbell (2/1/2020) when he scored a season best 30-points…The South Carolina native recorded a 9 assists outing against Hampton (2/29/2020) in the regular season finale.

High School: Bruner attended Gray Collegiate Academy where he played for head coach Dion Bethea and helped lead the team to back-to-back South Carolina Class AA state championships. He was also part of a state championship team as an eighth grader at Hammond School. Bruner was named the Class AA Player of the Year last season after averaging 16 points per game. He participated in the Carolinas Classic All-Star Basketball Game in Wilmington, N.C.

Personal: Sister Ashley played for the University of South Carolina (2009-2013) and professionally in Europe, Brother Jordan played for Yale (2016-2020).
