Dre Davis, David Johnson and Samuell Williamson are among 41 recognized for academic achievement

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three University of Louisville men's basketball student-athletes have been honored on the 2020-21 All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball Team.

Louisville's Dre Davis, David Johnson and Samuell Williamson are among 41 ACC men's basketball student-athletes recognized for their academic achievement as well as their on-court performance.  Williamson earned the recognition for the second year.

With these three selections, Louisville has placed an ACC-best 39 selections on the team in the last seven years, including five on last year's team.  To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career.  Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

Clemson's Aamir Simms was chosen as the recipient of the ACC's Skip Prosser Award, presented annually to the top scholar-athlete in ACC men's basketball.

Davis has started 17 games as a freshman, averaging 7.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game with six blocked shots and 33 offensive rebounds (third on the team).  He has scored at least five points in 14 of 19 games this season, reaching double figures on eight occasions (five of the last 12). He scored a season-best 21 points against Western Kentucky, becoming the first true freshman to score 20+ points in a game in four years.

An All-ACC honorable mention selection, Johnson is the only player in the ACC among the top 25 in both rebounding and assists, averaging 12.6 points, 3.3 assists (11th in the ACC) and 5.5 rebounds (25th).  He has nearly doubled his scoring and rebounding averages from a year ago and has buried six times his number of three-pointers from last season (team leading 30-of-79 threes this year, .380).

Williamson has averaged 11.8 points and 11.3 rebounds over the last six games, grabbing double-digit boards in five of the last six.  He leads the Cardinals in rebounding (8.1 rpg) and ranks fourth in the ACC.  He has pulled down six or more rebounds in 13 of his 17 games this season while also scoring 9.9 points per game.  His 8.9 rebounding average in conference games is second in the ACC. He has four double-doubles this season, including career highs of 20 points and 18 rebounds against Georgia Tech.

Louisville has received an NCAA Public Recognition Award seven of the last eight years for ranking among the top 10 percent in men's basketball in the Academic Progress Rate (APR), which measures academic eligibility, retention and graduation for student-athletes. Louisville and Stanford are the only two schools from Power Five conferences that have earned the APR recognition in at least seven of the last eight years.

The men's basketball team has attained a collective 3.0 GPA for 23 of the last 25 semesters, including a 3.100 cumulative team mark for the Fall 2020 semester. Thirteen of 17 Cardinals earned a 3.0 GPA or better in the UofL Fall 2020 semester (10 of 16 in the Spring 2020 semester).
