6-10 Simeon Kirkland Joins Men’s Basketball

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans head men's basketball coach Mark Slessinger announced the addition of 6-10 forward Simeon Kirkland to the 2021 Spring Class. Kirkland will have two years of eligibility remaining and joins UNO after a year at UAB.

"New Orleans is a great city and I built a good relationship with coach Sless and coach Berg (Kris Arkenberg) over several years," said Kirkland. "When I entered the transfer portal, they immediately reached out and I knew where I was headed."

Kirkland played in 18 games for a Blazers team that won 22 games. Before his time in Birmingham, Kirkland played two seasons at Florida SouthWestern. As a sophomore, he was named All-Suncoast Conference Second Team and led the Buccaneers to a 29-2 record and a No. 1 national ranking in the NJCAA. He averaged 8.6 points and 5.2 rebounds. As a freshman in 2019, Kirkland and FSW went 30-3 and finished No. 5 nationally.

"We are excited to add Simeon to our roster," said Slessinger. "We recruited Sim when he was at Florida SouthWestern and we are happy he is now a Privateer. His size and agility will be an immediate asset to our program. Simeon is tremendous in transition running to the rim and has the ability to defend multiple positions. He played for an excellent coach in Eric Murphy at FSW."

Kirkland joins Daniel Sackey and Jamond Vincent in the Spring 2021 class that continues to be rolled out.
