Brock Moreaux was named the Head Coach of the New Orleans Track and Field / Cross Country program on August 4, 2022 after serving as Assistant Head Coach from 2018-2021, and Associate Head Coach of the New Orleans Distance program during the 2021-2022 school year.

During his lone season as the Head Coach of the New Orleans Track and Field / Cross Country program the UNO Women’s Cross Country team won the program’s first Southland Conference Championship – and just the third conference championship in any sport in school history. The UNO women finished with 32 points – 55 points ahead of second place Lamar, the largest margin of victory in a Southland Championship since 2014. Ariana Jimenez (2nd), Tshwanelo Maruping (3rd), Alexandra Weir (7th), and Rebecca DeKay (8th) all finished inside the top-10, with all ten UNO women setting new personal bests.

The Privateer men set a new program best in both placement and point totals in a conference championship last season as well. New Orleans finished in third place in last season’s Southland Conference Championships with a total of 81 points. Both Kolyn Saltzman (4th place), and Jaden Forester (9th place) finished inside the top-10 and four Privateers set personal bests that morning in Thibodaux.

Both the Privateer men and women finished in sixth place at the 2022 South Central Regionals. For the UNO women it was their best placement in 11 regional attempts, and for the men it was their second lowest point total at an NCAA Regional (284) trailing only 2021’s total of 248. Ariana Jimenez finished 14th – the second top-15 finish of her career at the South Central
Regional, while Alexandra Weir finished 23rd.  On the men’s side Saltzman finished 11th and set a new school record in the 10K in College Station in the process.

The Privateer men and women’s cross country teams both finished 2022 ranked No. 6 in the final USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings – the highest ever ranking for the men, and the second highest for the women. The men finished ahead of three Power Five schools including: Baylor, TCU, and LSU while the women finished ahead of Baylor and TCU of the Power Five.

For his efforts Moreaux was named both the Southland Conference and Louisiana’s Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year for the 2022 season.

During his lone season in charge of New Orleans Track & Field / Cross Country 18 Privateers earned All-Southland recognition with five qualifying for NCAA East Regionals in Jacksonville, Fla. Freshman Jorim Bangue qualified in the 110M Hurdles with a time of 13.87 during the Southland Championships – the second best time in both the Southland, and state of Louisiana. Elliott Cummings qualified in the 100M following a mark of 10.13 also set at the Southland Championships. Jayden Sloan’s 51.19 in the 400M Hurdles won the Southland Championship in the event and qualified him for the East Regional as well.

Ellis Cummings, Mason Melancon, Elliott Cummings, and Sloan also qualified for the NCAA East Regional’s 4x100 competition after their time of 39.75 at LSU’s Alumni Gold. The foursome ran well in cold and windy conditions in Jacksonville and ended up one spot short of qualifying for the NCAA National Championships.

The Privateer women’s team scored 98 points at the 2023 Southland Outdoor Championships and finished in third place – the best ever conference finish for either a men’s or women’s team in any conference in program history. DeKay (10,000M), Saltzman (3,000M Steeplechase) and Sloan (400M Hurdles) were crowned individual Southland Champions during the Outdoor season, and freshman Alimot Alowonle was crowned the Southland’s long jump champion during the Indoor season.

Rebecca DeKay (in two events), Bangue, Jimenez and Saltzman were named All-Louisiana Track and Field following the 2023 season. Prior to his promotion to head coach Parker McBride (2022), Saltzman (2022), Mathilde Helms-Kjaer (2022), and Arina Kleschukova (2020) also earned All-Louisiana honors under his guidance.

Prior to becoming Head Coach, Moreaux was instrumental in revitalizing the Privateers’ distance program. Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams have had multiple record-setting performances including program best marks in finish and total points at the Southland Championships under his guidance.

During the 2021 season both the men’s and women’s cross country programs again set program bests at the Southland Championships. The men finished in fourth place after a record-setting 93 point total – the best in a conference championship meet in school history. The women finished in second place – a point shy of the championship with 57 points - the second-best point total in a conference championship meet trailing just the Sun Belt Championship squad of 2000 who finished with 51 points. Three Privateer women (Alexandra Weir – 2nd, Arina Kleshchukova – 3rd, Ariana Jimenez – 8th) all finished inside the top-10.

Both teams qualified for the 2021 NCAA South Central Regional and broke previous records for the best finish in school history – ninth place. Heading into the 2021 South Central Regional the USTFCCCA had the men’s program ranked seventh (tied for the highest ranking in program history), and the women ranked eighth – their second highest ever ranking in the South Central Regional at the time.

During the 2020 Southland Championships the men set then school records with a fourth-place finish and 113 points, while the women set their own record with a fourth-place finish at 112 points – beating their old Southland best by seven spots and 162 points. The men’s finish that year was their best in a conference championship since the 2005 Sun Belt Championships, while the women’s finish was their best since a fourth-place finish at the 2002 Sun Belt Championships.

Brock has coached six All-Southland cross country selections on the men’s side –Saltzman (2019, 2020, 2021), Forester (2020), and Cade Litolff (2020) and ten on the women’s side –Kleshchukova (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), Weir (2021, 2022), Jimenez (2021, 2022), Anna Dohmen (2020), Maruping (2022). In addition, Forester was named 2020 Southland Freshman of the Year, and Kleshchukova, Dohmen and Maruping were named Southland Newcomers of the Year in 2018, 2020 and 2022 respectively.

Privateer cross country has earned plenty of statewide recognition as well under Moreaux with six All-Louisiana selections on the men’s side –Saltzman (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022), and Forester (2020, 2022) earning the distinction. On the women’s side three student-athletes earned All-Louisiana (all multiple times) – Kleshchukova (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), Jimenez (2021, 2022), and Weir (2021, 2022). The Privateers swept the Louisiana Newcomer of the Year awards in 2020 as well with Forester and Dohmen being recognized by the LSWA. Maruping became the third LSWA Newcomer of the Year under Moreaux’s coaching in 2022.

Under Moreaux’s mentorship Kleshchukova became one of the most decorated student-athletes in school history despite having never run a cross country race before attending UNO. During her career, Arina won four races, finished second five times, third twice, fourth once, and fifth twice (13 out of 18 career races in the top-five). She was also just the second student-athlete in school history to advance to the NCAA Div. I Cross Country National Championships – a feat she accomplished both in 2019 and 2021. Arina was named the 2021 Southland Conference Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year for her performances both on the course, and in the classroom.

Before arriving in New Orleans, Moreaux spent two seasons at CSUN, guiding the program to its best ever finish at the 2018 Big West Cross Country Championships with a program-best five scored student-athletes compared to just a single scorer from the year before.

Prior to his time in California, Moreaux spent the 2016-17 season as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Oklahoma Track & Field / Cross Country program. While in Norman, he assisted the women’s cross country squad to fourth place in a very competitive Big 12 conference - the best conference finish in school history for the group.

No stranger to the Southland Conference, Moreaux was a four-year letterman at McNeese, competing in both track & field and cross country between 2011-2015. He won the conference title in the steeplechase at the 2015 Southland Championships.

During his final year of eligibility at McNeese, Moreaux served as an intern/assistant coach helping the coaching staff with day-to-day operations of the distance program.

He earned both of his degrees at McNeese, a Bachelor's in Business Administration and a Master's of Science in Health and Human Performance.

Following graduation, Moreaux was administrative assistant at the Chronic Pain Recovery Center in Shenandoah, Texas where he crafted exercise programs for both land and aquatic therapy.

Moreaux is a native of New Iberia, Louisiana and graduate of Delcambre High School. He currently resides in New Orleans.
