Beginner Singing Lessons

School of Rock is where young singers and aspiring vocalists go to learn the fundamentals of singing like breathing, posture and diction. These basic principles are key to strong vocal performances. Our expert voice teachers help guide beginner singers through the early stages of vocal progression, assisting with pitch training, developing timbre and keeping steady tempo. Unlike most singing lessons, when students enroll in our programs, they can expect both weekly private singing lessons and group rehearsals. The patented School of Rock Method builds musical proficiency through our proprietary Method App, Method Book collection, SongFirst approach, and performance-based music curriculum. All of our lesson programs include a performance aspect.

Every program at School of Rock includes private singing lessons paired with full-band group rehearsals and live performances, all designed to lift students to a higher vocal level.

TAKE SINGING LESSONS ONLINE AND IN-SCHOOL

At School of Rock, the health and safety of our students is our top priority. We’re offering online music lessons in addition to in-person socially-distanced classes. Students choosing to take singing lessons online are taught using the same famous, patented curriculum we use in our schools—The School of Rock Method™. This approach couples in-person or online singing lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

FAQ

How much do singing lessons cost?

Exact prices depend on the program and may vary between locations. Unlike most hourly singing lessons, our programs include weekly private singing lessons and group rehearsals that inspire confidence and teamwork. Vocal students are also welcome to use our facilities whenever we're open, even if they just want to hang out and learn from or collaborate with other musicians. Find your location.

Does School of Rock offer singing lessons for 4-year-olds?

Many 4-year-olds love to sing, but they likely lack the focus for formal voice lessons. However, it's not too early to begin teaching your child musical concepts that will be important once they are old enough for singing instruction at School of Rock. Your 4-year-old can participate in the Little Wing music program to learn fundamental concepts through fun, dynamic musical activities.

How long will it take for my child to get good at singing?

Practice is key, whether you are learning an instrument or developing a young voice. With steady practice and a good attitude, our singing lessons for kids can have your child singing with confidence in as little as 6 months. Some students reach the level of advanced singers in as few as 3-5 years, but results do vary from student to student.

How can I get my kid to practice singing more? How often should they practice singing?

One way to get your child to practice singing more is to inspire them every day. Start practices off with small increments of time, and, as their skill level builds, gradually increase the time spent practicing.

The bottom line is that it's not the songs you practice, but just that you or your kid spends time learning to sing. To see the best results, our singing instructors recommend that students spend at least 30 minutes practicing to sing every day.

Do you offer private singing lessons?

At School of Rock, we teach private singing lessons in-person or online in conjunction with weekly band rehearsals meant to build confidence and teamwork. While we do offer private singing instruction, we strongly encourage students to play in band rehearsals as a way of exploring group dynamics, and get the chance to find out what it's like to sing lead vocals for a rock band.

Does School of Rock have any singing lesson tips for new students?

Singing can be a surprisingly straining physical activity. A quick vocal warm-up can keep your voice healthy and make you sound great. We also recommend that you properly hydrate and refrain from smoking.

What is the best age to start singing lessons for kids?

If your child loves to sing, you probably knew it before they could talk. With persistence and motivation, some kids have learned to sing and perform at impressively young ages, but what it really comes down to is the individual attitude and maturity level of the student.

Check out our resource about the best age to learn to sing for tips and signs that your child is ready to take voice lessons.
