WILMINGTON – A steel truss bridge struck by a container truck Friday morning has been temporarily closed for safety.
The Castle Hayne Road bridge that spans Smith Creek has sustained damage that will require further inspection by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Drivers should use N.C. 133 and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway (U.S. 74) until the bridge can be safely reopened.
NCDOT bridge maintenance crews will begin Monday performing a detailed assessment of the damage and identifying a potential repair plan. A timetable for completing the repairs should become clear by next week.
