Requesting Banner access and/or training

All new users are required to complete FERPA training online and live Banner training prior to access.

FERPA training

All users must complete FERPA training prior to receiving Banner access. (The FERPA training link will not work for affiliate employees. Please get in touch to be set up manually.)

The training is in two parts: the training content (about 45 minutes) and the assessment (about 15 minutes). Both must be completed to satisfy the FERPA training requirement.

Next, book an appointment for live Zoom training with Denise Kidd.

On the booking form, you will see a text box to give additional details about the nature of the appointment. To prepare you for completing the form, I've given some tips for what to expect on the booking form.

We kindly ask that you delay booking your appointment until you have the following information:

  • Please ask your supervisor the name of the person who was previously in your position or the name of a current employee who has the same access you're seeking. Knowing this allows us to properly calibrate your access.

  • Please provide a list of Banner screens you will use. If you’re not sure, please ask your supervisor or colleagues. If you’re unable to do so, providing a list of tasks or information you’ll look up is helpful. This is not so much for access calibration, but rather to ensure I demonstrate the screens you will be using so you can have more context for what you'll be doing. More information here will create a better training experience for you.

Access request

After training, Denise will submit a Banner access request to be fulfilled by IT, and you’ll be notified when it’s complete.

Multiple new users

If multiple new users need training and access, each new user should complete FERPA training. Decide internally the best time for training based on availability. Schedule a single training session for the group.

On the booking form, in the Banner screens question field, list all members who will attend.

The person who books the training will receive the confirmation and the event will automatically be added to their Outlook calendar. That person should forward the calendar event to all attendees.

After training, I’ll open a Banner access request for each attendee.
