Biography

2022-2023: Was one of two players to appear and start in all 31 games for Tulane… Led the team and the AAC in minutes per game at 37.1 and played a full 40 three times this season… Averaged a career high 9.7 points per game, 3.4 assists per game and 4.8 rebounds per game… James scored in double figures 15 times this season, besting his total of six last season… James earned his way onto the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for the first time after a career-high 30 points and seven steals in the team's win versus Memphis (2/4)… Earned the AAC Sportsmanship award at the conclusion of the season… Set the Tulane record for most blocks in an AAC Tournament game at 6 versus Wichita State (3/10).

2021-2022: Started in 27 of 28 games in his second season… Averaged 7.4 points in 35.2 minutes per game, 4.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and held a team-high 46 steals on the season… Scored in double figures six times and had 18 games with three or more assists… Had 13 points and seven assists in the overtime win versus Drexel (11/22)… Scored 14 points and dished out five assists in Tulane’s win over Memphis (12/29)… Totaled a career-high 18 points and nine rebounds in the Feb. 12 win over Temple… Had a career game in the AAC Tournament opener versus Temple with a career-high five blocks, nine rebounds and shot 1.000 going 4-4 from field goal range and 1-1 from the line (3/11).

2020-2021: Appeared in all 23 games and made 17 starts in his debut campaign…Averaged 5.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 26.0 minutes per game…Shot 44-of-102 (.431) overall, 7-of-25 (.280) from 3-point range and 39-of-60 (.650) at the free throw line…Shot 48 percent overall and 35 percent from beyond the arc in 17 conference games…Scored in double-figures four times and had at least three assists on nine occasions…Scored 11 points with five rebounds, three assists and two steals in his first collegiate start in the win over Lipscomb (11/29)…Compiled a season-high 13 points with five rebounds and a season-high four assists off the bench against Temple (1/16)…Pulled down a season-high seven rebounds against No. 6 Houston (1/28)…Made a clutch corner trey to ice the road win at USF (2/14)…Matched his season high with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting against UCF (2/20)…Tallied 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting with a season-high four steals at Cincinnati (2/26).

Before Tulane: Lettered three years at Lanier High School under head coach Branden Mayweather…Two-time Region 8A Player of the Year selection as a junior and senior… Named the 2020 6A Co-Player of the Year by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association and to the all-state team…2020 Atlanta Tipoff Club Second Team All-Metro selection…2020 In The Layne All-Star Classic Team pick… Guided Lanier to the state championship game as the No. 1 seed in the state tournament as a senior in 2020 following an undefeated regular season in Region 6A and its first 6A tournament championship…Scored 26 points and recorded 8 rebounds and 5 assists in the regional title game…Earned 6A North Atlanta Boys’ All-State First Team honors and all-county first team recognition as a junior in 2019 after averaging 14.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game…Led the Longhorns to the Region 8 6A title…Paced Lanier to its first 20-win season and first state playoff win in program history as a sophomore in 2018…Averaged 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists as a sophomore… Rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com…Missed his freshman year and 2016 AAU season after tearing his ACL as a member of the football team before committing to basketball full-time…In the classroom, posted a 4.0 GPA all four years and ranked in the top five percent of his graduating class… Played for Game Elite under head coach Tremayne Anchrum on the AAU circuit in 2018-19…Competed for the Georgia Red Storm and coach Patrick Scales from 2011-16.
