The National Science Foundation supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering, except for the medical sciences. This talk will provide an overview of the NSF’s mission and organization, focusing on funding opportunities relevant to researchers in industrial engineering, operations research, manufacturing systems and related disciplines. A discussion of the relevant review criteria will also be presented, along with suggestions for developing successful proposals.

Reha Uzsoy is a rotating Program Director in the Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation at the National Science Foundation, where he works with the Operations Engineering program as well as several solicitations related to computation, data science and cyberinfrastructure. His permanent position is the Clifton A. Anderson Distinguished Professor in the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University. He holds BS degrees in Industrial Engineering and Mathematics and an MS in Industrial Engineering from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey and received his Ph.D in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida.
