Southwest Airlines Achieves Hiring Milestone by Increasing Employee Count Beyond Pre-Pandemic 2019 Levels

Update

As of June 2022, Southwest Airlines has grown our total, active, full-time equivalent Employee base to more than 61,000—higher than the number of Southwest Employees at the end of 2019 before the start of the pandemic. This hiring accomplishment is aimed at adding resources and increased reliability for our Customers and Employees during the busy summer travel season and beyond.

"Our recent hiring milestones represent incredible progress with aligning staffing to support our flight schedule, Customers and Employees," said Elizabeth Bryant, Senior Vice President People, Learning, and Development: "We're proud of the 10,000 new Southwest Employees that we've welcomed since January and hiring and training will remain a focus throughout 2022."

Southwest expects to add and train thousands more Employees throughout the year—with the majority of individuals being hired into operational roles such as Flight Attendants, Pilots, Ground Operations, Technical Operations and Customer Support & Services. Since last year, Southwest has increased the number of individuals on each of our Operational Teams as we continue delivering Southwest Hospitality to each other and Customers across our network.
