Rainbow capitalism, the act of using or adding rainbow colors and/or imagery to indicate progressive support for LGBTQ+ equality, but with little to no actual effort or result for the community, is nobody's friend. Come join Stonewall Pride, the LGBTQ+ staff and faculty affinity group, and the UMB Intercultural Center to make your own DIY personalized Pride buttons, learn more about local and LGBTQ+ owned businesses, and say a big "heck no" to rainbow capitalism this upcoming Pride month.

This workshop follows the multicultural counseling framework of developing awareness, knowledge, skills, and action to support the LGBTQ+ community. The goal of the workshop is to increase the participants’ awareness of their own biases and privileges, provide information on LGBTQ+ identities and experiences, develop skills to be an ally and move from tolerance to acceptance, and provide action steps and resources in order to continue to educate yourself.

This month's dialogue will focus on legislation impacting trans people in the U.S., while also examining the shifting societal messages about trans people, from invisibility to hypervisibility.


The Table is a monthly dialogue series where UMB students, staff, and faculty are invited to discuss current issues and unpack questions regarding social identity and social issues.
