Artist Statement:

My hope is that my work will capture the feeling of a pausing for a moment in nature – whether it’s gentle light reflected on fresh snow or glimmers of sunshine on the water. I am constantly entranced by the sublime beauty of the natural world. I grew up in Concord Massachusetts, not five miles from Walden Pond and its woods where American Naturalist Henry David Thoreau lived while he wrote Walden. As I developed as an artist I was lucky enough to bear witness to distinct and brilliant seasons of nature; my love for the colorful landscapes around me and the feelings of serenity they invoked became powerful motivators in my work. As Thoreau says, ‘“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.” I paint these landscapes as a way to express my gratitude for natural moments of beauty, and as a reminder to myself to never stop pausing for them.
