iDEA Growth Calls on NY Lawmakers to Fight for Competitive Mobile Sports Betting

WASHINGTON, DC – April 2, 2021 – The following statement is attributed to Jeff Ifrah, founder & general counsel of iDEA Growth (iDevelopment and Economic Association):

Last year, Governor Cuomo commissioned a year-long study by a leading gaming industry advisory firm, Spectrum Gaming, to identify the right sports betting model for New York consumers. Our understanding is that the resulting report was comprehensive, credible and the result of thorough research.

Spectrum Gaming concluded that a competitive environment that allowed consumers a choice would also build out the most robust industry – and tax base – for the state of New York.

On behalf of iDEA Growth and its dozens of members in the gaming industry, we urge Governor Cuomo and the New York State legislature to enact legislation to ensure the creation of a competitive, regulated, sports betting market that will work for consumers, the New York state economy and bolster ailing New York state tax revenues.
