Our History

Since the club’s founding in 2016, the Skydive Broncos have worked hard to make the transformative experience of skydiving accessible to college students, providing the populace of WMU with an easy way to break into the sport, whether it be competitively or purely recreational. Our club proudly fosters an environment that allows students to grow and learn along side one another, forming new relationships and discovering new passions along the way.

Skydiving and the A-License

Skydiving itself dates as far back as 1797, but the first recorded free-fall was in 1917, followed by the first competitive jumps in the 1930’s. Skydiving gained more traction after the military developed better parachute technology to use as a tactical move during World War II.

One of our club’s main goals is to help our members achieve their A-License status. The A-License is acquired once a student has completed 25 jumps and all the required training to go along with it. The United States Parachute Association (USPA) is responsible for giving out all skydiving licenses from A to D, ranging from 25 jumps to 500 jumps, respectively.

Safe and Responsible Skydiving at WMU

By partnering with registered US Parachute Association drop zones, mainly Skydive Allegan, us Broncos are able to prioritize safety in our sport. Through participation in a rigorous and extensive training program, we gain an appreciation for skydiving, learning from great instructors how we can better be champions of our beautiful sport.
