What's Next Theme and Format

Theme

The colloquium will focus on “What’s Next?” for theories of embodiment in philosophy and cognitive science. What’s Next!? should be considered in two key senses.

First, we intend to explore what comes next for the so-called embodied approaches to philosophy and cognitive science (4E, enactive, and ecological etc.).

Second, given the state of the world, and the human’s place in it, we want to spend time considering both what comes next, and what we as philosophers can do now. We hope to focus on growing trends in cross-cultural, interdisciplinary, and inclusive approaches in particular.

Format

The colloquium will be entirely online and presentations will come in two forms. The first is through pre-recorded presentations that will be made available on our YouTube channel prior to the colloquium dates.

The second is through 3 live moderated Zoom-based panel discussions during the colloquium dates. Each speaker will be given 10-15 minutes to briefly introduce their work and their thoughts about “What’s Next!?”
Each speaker will then be given 15-20 minutes to respond to both questions submitted in advance and questions submitted to the moderator live.

Lastly, in order to regain some element of informal social discussion, there will be 2 optional hangout sessions planned. Each session will be tailored to the time zones of panelists in order to give everyone a chance to socialize if they wish.
