What's New for 2023-24?
As part of the VBCPS High School Redesign initiative to empower future ready learners, VBCPS enters Year 2 of the flexible scheduling model. As we continue to improve the flexible schedule, here are some changes for Kellam HS:
Diploma Types and Sample Schedules - Kellam HS has developed four (4) pathways for students to consider when planning their high school academic career. The examples are not prescriptive, but rather are meant to help students make informed decisions about their course selections each year. Parents/Guardians are strongly encouraged to review the pathways and sample schedules with their students.
Sequential Courses - The 4x4 schedules allows students to take two related courses in one year. For example, Spanish I and Spanish II, or Construction Technology and Power/Transportation, or Fashion Marketing and Advanced Fashion Marketing.
Deadlines - During the pandemic, some regulations involving excused blocks, course loads, and adjusting of schedules were relaxed across the division. Going forward, to ensure we make staffing and scheduling decisions based on the needs of our students, and to maximize the learning environment for all students, all related policies and deadlines will be strictly enforced. Pay particular attention to the June 30 final deadline for all course request change requests and related paperwork including:
