Welcome! I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Seoul and an Affiliate Professor at Korea Institute for Advanced Study (KIAS). My research focuses on the areas of partial differential equations, optimal transport, and optimization. I am passionate about investigating the theoretical underpinnings of these subjects and using them to solve real-world problems, including those related to machine learning. Specifically, my current work involves the analysis of PDEs and gradient flow structures that arise in optimal transport, multi-agent systems, and generative models. My research can be accessed on Google Scholar or here (by topics).

Before coming to the University of Seoul, I served as a Van Vleck Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from August 2020 to February 2023. My mentor was Professor Hung Tran.  In June 2020, I completed my Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), under the supervision of Professor Inwon Kim. I am grateful to the Kwanjeong Educational Foundation for their generous support of my doctoral studies.

My academic journey began at Seoul National University in South Korea, where I earned my B.S. in Mathematical Sciences in February 2012. During my undergraduate studies, I received financial support from the Korea Student Aid Foundation as a Presidential Science Fellowship recipient. I am an alumnus of Seoul Science High School.
