Aventure Tourism in Colombia

Class overview

This 3-credit course is designed to provide an introduction to the concepts of travel and tourism, with a focus on outdoor and adventure destinations. Participants will attend classes for Part 2 term to cover key concepts and prepare for the 12-day adventure tour to Colombia.

Topics will include: tourist profiles and motivations, market analysis, alternative tourism types, and host community development. This course will involve international travel and an extensive outdoor excursion. Participants do not need previous outdoor experience, but they should have an adventurous spirit.

Course Objectives

A. To explore the foundations of Adventure Tourism and other types of alternative tourism.

B. To examine tourist profiles and motivations.

C. To be aware of the economic, conservation, and health values of outdoor resources for host communities.

D. To gain experience in the implementation of outdoor activities within a tourism context.
