Details

Selby Public Library's annual pop culture convention, SRQCon, returns again on May 20th! This all-ages event will feature panels, demonstrations, cosplay, trivia, gaming, scavenger hunts, crafts, and much more. Show off your best cosplay and join our cosplay contest!

No tickets or registration required to attend the event; entry is free!

Panels:

  • 11am -11:45am: Fan-History's Mysteries: The History of Fan Works with Nienna Nir
  • 12pm -12:15pm: ShimmyBoom Bellydancing
  • 12:30pm -12:45pm: Author Festival Announcement
  • 1pm - 1:45pm: Cosplay Creation with Bec the Noir
  • 2pm - 2:45pm: Yo Jeff: Comics Are Not Just for Kids
  • 3pm: Cosplay Contest

Activities

  • 11am - 1pm; 2pm - 4pm: Silkscreening (Youth Program Room)
  • 11am - 4pm: Kids Crafts (Youth Desk)
  • 12pm - 2pm: Design a Shield (Creation Station)
  • 11am - 4pm: Cosplay Repair Station (Creation Station)
  • 11am - 4pm: Mysterium Escape Rooms (Upstairs)

 

SRQCon Rules

  • All participants and attendees must follow Sarasota County Library Rules of Conduct and Facility Rules while on the premises. 
  • Cosplay is NOT consent! Harassment will not be tolerated. Always ask before taking pictures of a cosplayer or posing with a cosplayer in the background.  
  • Cosplay should be appropriate for all-ages.  Selby Public Library staff has the final say on whether a cosplay or costume is appropriate. 
  • The following are strictly prohibited as part of your costume: 
    • Real weapons, even if they are no longer functioning or sharp 
    • Sharp-edged or metal weapons 
    • Airsoft, paintball, or BB/pellet weapons 
    • Metal or wooden baseball bats or clubs 
    • Aerosol sprays, projectiles of any kind (including nerf darts), and pyrotechnics of any kind 
  • All toy or model guns must be clearly marked with orange on the barrel. 
  • Large foam, cardboard, and plastic props are allowed. 
  • Selby Public Library staff reserves the right to deny entry to any prop or prop weapon.  
  • Inappropriate use of otherwise allowable props or weapons will result in the weapon or prop being removed from the con. 
  • Footwear is required and includes shoes, boots, or slippers; socks are not considered footwear. Even if your character does not wear shoes, all participants must wear footwear.
