Supply chains – welcome to the new level of digital networking

SC3 is a unique ECSEL “Communication and Support Action” project with the aim to take the Supply Chain Management (SCM) of production in Europe to a new level. Based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and linking the real with the digital world, it will push a close interaction to a smooth and transparent collaboration making even highly complex supply chains resilient, flexible and agile.

Technically, the project focuses on merging a Digital Reference (DR) platform including its ontology with a Generic Data Model (GDM). In other words, SC3 intends to create a common language for total collaboration between humans and machines and all partners involved.

Interconnect things

One language to interconnect things

To fully use the potentials of IoT it takes a seamless interconnection of things and single procedures across value chains and a smooth collaboration among all participants involved. The method of choice is a common language based on the Semantic Web and its ontology. While already used in business-to-customer (B2C) environments, SC3 will prepare it for the far more complex field of business-to-business (B2B), namely the semiconductor industry.

Lingua franca

Lingua franca for humans and machines

As a Semantic Web model and its ontologies of semiconductor supply chains, a Digital Reference (DR) platform for the complete industry will act as a lingua franca to handle data of different quality and structure from various sources. Integrated and presented in a unified view, a common understanding of concepts across all data sources is defined, empowering humans and computers to collaborate and converse in a common language.

Far beyond boundaries

Completely interlinked and far beyond boundaries

Providing the benefits of digital twins, the Generic Data Model (GDM) as a simulation-based planning system for the semiconductor supply chain is a gate opener for a comprehensive collaborative supply chain management with access also to external parties. And, based on the Semantic Web, DR will act as a data structure providing a common framework to share and reuse data across application, enterprise, and community boundaries. Fusing GDM with DR will channel them to an even broader community and other industrial domains.
