Dogs are our valued companions, but do we know what they are thinking?  When we speculate about their wants and needs, their beliefs, their emotions, are we “anthropomorphizing,” projecting our outlooks onto them?  Understanding our dogs requires that we look at things from their perspectives, but how do we do that, and can we get better at it?  What are the implications for how we interact with them?

Ed Minar, Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Arkansas and trainer/roommate to three Australian Shepherds, will look at what dogs are and at what recent developments in dog science teach us about how to relate to them, with the hope of gaining insight into how best to flourish alongside our best friends.  New materials and training tips will be covered!

  • This one session program will meet in person at the Pryor Center, located at 1 E Center St, Fayetteville, AR.
