Summary

The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) will recruit, select, train and supervise a team of 10–16 student resident assistants (RAs) and maintain direct responsibility for 300–400 students.  RLCs are required to live on campus and manage the day-to-day functionality of one or more residence halls including assignments, opening/closing of buildings, enforcing policy and responding to campus emergencies.  Residence Life Coordinators serve in an on-call rotation.  RLCs partner with multiple constituents to enhance the academic mission of the institution and create a learning environment that addresses the holistic growth of students.  Successful RLCs will approach their work from an educational perspective, exhibit exemplary communication skills and contribute to the development of a larger vision of the division and College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Residence Life)

Recruit, hire, train and supervise resident assistant staff, including conducting weekly staff and individual meetings.

Responsible for all operations related to the management of one or more residence halls (maintenance issues, keys, check-in/check-out procedures, housing assignments, damage billings, etc.)

Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement educational, social and recreational programming based on measurable learning outcomes.

Conduct hall meetings on a regular basis.

Participate in the 24-hour per day on-call emergency management and crisis response rotation.

Counsel students, mediate disputes and make appropriate referrals related to emotional, psychological, behavioral and interpersonal conflicts and concerns.

Build professional competencies by participating in on-going training and development.

Assist in the facilitation of summer programs.

Participate in campus-wide committees.

Adjudicate student conduct issues as needed.

Assist in the facilitation of campus-wide programs (new student orientation, admissions visit days, spring formal, commencement, etc.).

Other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Greek Life)

Serve as a staff advisor to the fraternity and sorority community.

Co-advise the Inter-Greek Council (IGC).

Co-coordinate recruitment/intake for all social fraternity and sorority organizations.

Co-coordinate fraternity and sorority events such as Greek Week and new member education.

Act as a liaison to chapter advisors, national headquarters and national councils.

Coordinate and oversee the adherence of College rules and regulations by all chapters

Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 10–16 student RAs.  Responsibilities include planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints, resolving problems and assessing outcomes.

Education and/or Experience

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and one to two years related experience and/or training post-Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.                                                     

PREFERRED: Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to walk.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

RLC must be able to conduct rounds of campus during both day and nighttime hours and observe behavior, identify individuals, provide descriptions of individuals and observe behavior in a crowd.

RLC must be able to move furniture and stoop or bend to see under beds and climb or balance to access closets.

RLC must be able to haul materials and supplies for program and other activities.

Infrequently, RLC must handle or be exposed to bodily fluids.

RLC must occasionally function effectively during late night and/or early morning hours with little or no sleep.
