1. Overview

LEAD California is organizing a statewide grant application to apply for a 3-year $1M grant to develop service-learning courses in the disciplines of Nursing, Gerontology, Kinesiology, Recreation and Leisure, Social Work and Sociology, Health Science and Public Health, etc. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and there is approximately $10M+ in the current pool of CMP funds.

The students in these courses provide direct service to nursing home residents (Using a well-researched BingoCize program out of Western Kentucky University). This program has been replicated in 9 states, using this CMP funding. Additionally, the faculty teaching these service-learning courses would be part of a statewide Faculty Fellows program that will offer training, support, mentorship, and a stipend to those who implement the courses.

LEAD California is seeking approximately 6-12 colleges in California (must be a member of LEAD California) to participate in this program, with one or two Faculty Fellows per campus. Campuses would have to pre-identify a nursing home facility in their region/city that would be the “community partner” to the college/university on this grant.  You can enter your zip code into this database to find Skilled Nursing Homes in your community.   Alternatively, this might be a better site to look up Skilled Nursing Homes in your area.
