West Evans Street Closure and Detour Begins Early June
Crews to begin widening I-64 over West Evans Street
NORFOLK - As part of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project, starting Monday, June 7 construction crews will close West Evans Street from Executive Drive to Granby Street in Norfolk, VA. The road closure will be in effect until fall 2021. A detour route will be implemented as crews begin work to widen the I-64 overpass bridges.

The road will close to general traffic and pedestrians. Construction crews will set up and mark the West Evans Street detour. Construction activity will commence in early June with the mobilization and set-up of cranes, excavators, pile hammer and leads.

Residents living and working near the bridge construction may experience some noise impacts.

The HRBT Expansion Project will widen I-64 from near Settlers Landing Road in Hampton to the I-564 Interchange in Norfolk. The project includes the addition of twin two-lane bored tunnels, new marine trestle bridges, and bridge and roadway widening along 10 miles of I-64. The project aims to increase capacity, ease major congestion, increase safety and boost regional tourism.
