Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology

Welcome to the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology in the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Our vibrant and collegial faculty, students, and staff use state-of-the-art facilities to pursue research across pharmacology and toxicology domains, with strengths in cardiovascular, neuro-, and cancer pharmacology and environmental, immuno-, and neurotoxicology. We have multiple collaborations with scientists across the campus and with academic, government, and industrial scientists outside the university. The Department has a sustained commitment to inter-disciplinary research and maintains strong extramural funding.

Our doctoral concentration in Pharmacology and Toxicology is part of a Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. umbrella program. This flexible, research-based program is designed to develop the interests, capabilities, and expertise of tomorrow’s biomedical scientists. The School of Medicine sponsors an MS program that is a significant source of students who complete thesis research with our faculty. We are strongly committed to professional education for medical, dental, and nursing students.

The Department values diverse experiences and perspectives. We strive to create a welcoming and respectful learning environment that promotes access and opportunity for all. As part of the overall mission of the Brody School of Medicine, we are firmly committed to improving the well-being of Eastern North Carolina through activities that enhance diversity and inclusion in research, teaching, and service.
