More than half of Texas Latino voters disapprove of Biden amid border crisis

More than 50 percent of registered Latino voters in the Lone Star State say they disapprove of the job President Biden has done — as over 12,600 illegal immigrants remain under the Del Rio International Bridge along the southern Texas border and the ongoing immigration crisis rages on Biden’s watch.

Fifty-four percent of Latino voters in Texas disapprove of Biden’s job while only 35 percent approve, according to a new poll by the Dallas Morning News and University of Texas-Tyler.

The poll, which randomly questioned 1,148 registered voters, found 52 percent of Texas voters disapprove of Biden’s job overall while only 40 percent approve, and 9 percent said neither.

Biden saw the largest level of approval from black voters in the state, with 77 percent approving and 12 percent disapproving. Among white voters, the president saw 33 percent approving of his job and 60 percent disapproving. The poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.

While the sample was conducted from Sept. 7 to 14, the poll’s results come as the Biden administration faces the aftermath of the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, diplomatic frustration with France and thousands of illegal immigrants flooding in at the southern border, after illegal crossings have smashed records month after month.

When asked if they approve or disapprove of Biden’s handling of immigration at the southern border, the poll found that only 29 percent approve of his handling while 52 percent disapprove. Approximately 19 percent of respondents said “neither.”

On Friday, Del Rio, Texas, saw over 10,000 illegal immigrants taking shelter under the international bridge as they waited to be detained and processed by the Border Patrol. Many were told it could be days until they were processed, and hundreds were seen crossing back into Mexico to purchase provisions.

More than 320 migrants were flown back to Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, on three flights on Sunday, and US authorities say they plan to expel the more than 12,600 migrants camped around the bridge.

The Border Patrol is looking to process all the migrants under the bridge as quickly as possible and since Friday has moved at least 3,300 to planes or detention centers.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is expected to travel to Del Rio on Monday to receive a briefing on the situation and meet with state and local officials. Over the weekend, Homeland Security announced 400 Border Patrol agents would be reporting to the border town to help restore order.

Many Republican lawmakers have blasted the Biden administration for the massive influx of illegal immigrants and the Federal Aviation Administration’s decision to restrict flights over the bridge, hindering several news outlets’ ability to accurately cover the situation.

“We know what they’re doing and they are not getting away with it. Restricting and blocking the media’s drones over the Del Rio bridge proves that the Administration is fully aware of the crisis they have created,” Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) said in a statement.

“This refusal to be transparent is yet another way the Biden Administration is trying to twist the true narrative of what is happening at the border. With or without media access, we will not stop working to expose the truth about this humanitarian and national security crisis.”

Growing criticism of Biden’s job as president was also apparent in a separate poll done by Fox News, which found that 54  percent of the respondents think the country is less united, while only 37 percent say it is more united since Biden took office.

The poll showed that Biden’s disapproval rating is rising — going from 43 percent in April to 49 percent, while 50 percent approve of the job the president is doing.
