24/7 P.O. Box Access at Dillon Post Office & Weekend Package Pickup at Grand Lake Post Office Restored by USPS

February 7, 2023

Lafayette, CO — Today, Congressman Neguse announced immediate service improvements at United States Postal Service locations in Colorado’s mountain communities. Following requests made by Rep. Neguse in a January 31st letter to USPS District Manager (CO-WY District) Jason McMahill, the USPS announced to local stakeholders and the Congressman’s office that the Dillon Post Office has restored 24/7 access to PO boxes and the Grand Lake Post Office will allow for package pickups on Saturday mornings.

For people in these communities:

  • 24/7 P.O. box access has been restored at the Dillon Post Office.

  • Saturday morning package pickup is available at the Grand Lake Post Office.

“While I am heartened to see the USPS take these important first steps to address the ongoing mail delivery challenges in our mountain communities, both of which we identified in our letter to USPS officials last week, there remains more to do to ensure our constituents receive the level of service they are entitled to. For local workers and busy families, these measures will help ensure they can pay their bills on time, receive medications in a timely manner, conduct their businesses, and so much more,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “These are encouraging first steps in our work to make sure the USPS is providing the necessary level of service in the mountains. But our work isn’t finished – we will continue to push for all the improvements detailed in our letter to make sure constituents are receiving their mail and packages in a timely manner”

Congressman Neguse’s office has received regular complaints from mountain residents regarding mail service, with the volume increasing dramatically in recent months. Local leaders in Dillon and Silverthorne describe post offices in their communities as deeply dysfunctional. USPS management has failed to dedicate the resources required to deliver a level of service Congressman Neguse’s constituents expect and deserve, with too many in the community unable to receive medications, bills, checks, passports, packages, and standard mail they are owed.

Chronically understaffed facilities and operations have led to delayed and unreliable mail delivery that harms rural communities, including their seniors and small businesses. Rep. Neguse has previously written to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to express his deep concerns about operational changes in the U.S. Postal Service that negatively impact Coloradans and the millions of Americans who live in rural communities.
