NORTH CAROLINA SCHOOLS FACE A LITERACY CRISIS

A drop in K-5 literacy scores is having a drastic impact across our state. In recent years, some students have lost learning time and are falling behind. Families are juggling work, school, and child care. Teachers are struggling to keep students engaged. All of this makes it harder for students to learn and thrive.

North Carolina Education Corps was a response to the impact COVID-19 had on schools, and its work continues to help students make up ground and get back on track.

We bring together community members to support students and accelerate learning. You can help.

IMAGINE IF EVERY K-5 STUDENT HAD ACCESS TO A TUTOR

That’s a future we're creating together.

We recruit, train, and support “corps members” who serve as high-impact tutors.

Corps members extend the reach of teachers and accelerate student learning in response to the impact of lower literacy scores in schools. As tutors, corps members assist K-5 students with building foundational skills with profound, long-term implications.

Our call to action is simple: step up to work as a high-impact tutor. Join a community effort to support students and accelerate learning.

Our mission

Launched in September 2020 by the North Carolina State Board of Education and Office of the Governor, NC Education Corps connects caring adults to students to eliminate barriers to opportunity and unlock student potential. Now as an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, NCEC partners with schools to recruit, train, and coach corps members who work for schools as high-impact tutors.

JOB CREATION MEETS CRISIS RECOVERY

We match motivated, service-minded North Carolinians from diverse backgrounds with opportunities to make a positive difference for young students across the state.

Our vision:
A North Carolina Where All Students Have The Support They Need To Thrive.

Become a high-impact tutor
