“An urgent documentary. At a time when reproductive rights in America
is under attack, it’s a movie that feels timelier than ever“

–Dua Lipa

My So-Called Selfish Life is a revolutionary new documentary about one of our greatest social taboos: choosing not to become a mother.

Titled after one of the myths it challenges, this entertaining and thought-provoking film draws on pop culture, science, and history to reveal the diverse lives of people who have said no to parenthood–and the forces that have marginalized them in society.

The film arrives as global media teems with pronatalist propaganda: Dire warnings about declining birthrates and staggering threats to women’s reproductive freedom.

With brisk, cheeky humor and an intersectional lens, My So-Called Selfish Life questions the cultural narratives that shape our identities.

The film advocates for everyone’s bodily autonomy, so we can decide for ourselves if and when to have children–free of the cultural attitudes and ever-growing restrictions that prevent true free choice. Because when we have control over their reproductive choices, powerful things happen.
